Grads On Track: Happiness Webinar

The end of the first semester is almost here! How happy did you feel this past semester? How do you determine whether you are happy or not? Is there a universal standard of happiness? Please join Coach Susan for this webinar on Happiness, based off the theories of the most popular course at Harvard, taught by Tal Ben-Shahar, Ph.D. As an over achiever his whole life, Tal spent much of his life searching for the answer of lasting happiness. He realized that he was not alone in his unhappiness at Harvard; many of his classmates seemed to be stressed and dispirited. The constant quest for happiness lead Tal to teaching Positive Psychology at Harvard in 2002 and in three years, it became the largest class in Harvard's history. In this webinar, we will look at happiness from many angles and Coach Susan will share 5 steps to being happier in your life. Coach Susan had the good fortune to go to one of Tal's workshops in 2010 and she's excited to share the two student models he created at Harvard, which will give you insight into being happier during grad school. You can attend by phone or webcast. Don't miss out!
Race for the Cure

Race for the Cure offers a 5K (3.1 miles) competitive run (timed), a 5K recreational run, a 5K walk, and a 1 mile family fun walk.

Breast cancer is a reality for far too many women, men and children across Maryland. In 2012, an estimated 4,700 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed across the state, and 810 women are expected to die from the disease. These alarming statistics are the reason Iım emailing you today.

Your support allows for the continued funding of grants that may otherwise fall short and be unable to provide services to those in need. In 2011, Komen Maryland was able to fund $2.5 million to 29 local grant programs. What did this mean for our community?

6,735 women completed screening mammograms.
1,480 women received diagnostic services.
2,998 survivors and their family members received support services, counseling or assistance with daily living activities.
98 children impacted by breast cancer in their family received counseling or assistance with daily living activities.

This is just a small representation of those impacted by our grant programs and there are real people behind each number. The people we help are your mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, friends, and co-workers across Maryland. With your support we can continue to fund grant programs that provide vital services throughout our community.

Help us achieve our fundraising goal for the 20th Annual Komen Maryland Race for the Cure which will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
